Joab’s brother Asahel came after me, fast as a gazelle, and wouldn’t back off. Told him twice to stop. How would I ever look his brother in the eye?

Commander of Saul’s army. Then of Saul’s son’s.
Son of Ner, Saul’s cousin, and commander of his army. After Saul died at Gilboa I made his son Ish-bosheth king. I kept the house of Saul standing for years. Then I changed sides.

He wouldn’t stop. I struck him with the butt of my spear. He died where he fell.
Does the killing have to go on for ever? Can’t you see this ends badly for everyone?
Saul’s son accused me over his father’s concubine. After all my loyalty to his family. Fine. I’ll hand the whole kingdom to David.

I swear, Your Majesty, I don’t know.
The king told me to find out whose son he is. So the moment the boy came back from killing the Philistine, I took him straight to the king.
