Okay so Dad’s donkeys wandered off. Three days looking. Nothing. Thinking we head home before he stops worrying about the donkeys and starts worrying about us.

Went looking for donkeys. Came back a king.
Son of Kish, from Gibeah in Benjamin, the smallest tribe, and my clan the least in it. A head taller than anyone. I was out looking for my dad’s lost donkeys when Samuel poured oil on my head. Samuel once said I was small in my own eyes. He wasn’t wrong. Israel’s first king.

Fair. The bread was all gone. I’d have turned up empty-handed.
Asked a man at the gate where the seer lived. Turns out he was the seer. Said the donkeys had turned up. Then said all Israel’s hopes are on me and my family. Sorry, what?

I said: me? I’m from Benjamin, the smallest tribe, and my clan’s the least in it. Why say that to me?
People wanted the ones who’d looked down on me put to death. No. Nobody dies today. Today the LORD has rescued Israel.
Waited seven days for Samuel. He didn’t come, and my men were slipping away. So I offered the burnt offering myself. I felt I had to.

Okay, that was the troops. They spared the best sheep and cattle to sacrifice to the LORD your God. The rest we destroyed.

I admitted it. I’d sinned. I was afraid of the people, so I did what they wanted. After that, all I asked was that you’d honour me in front of the elders.

Go, then. May the LORD be with you.
Tens of thousands to him, thousands to me. What’s left for him but the kingdom?
Saul has killed his thousands, and David his tens of thousands!Replying to @saulsarmy
My own daughter tricked me and let my enemy get away.
It was David’s voice. My son. I wept. He’s more in the right than I am. He paid me back with good, and I paid him back with evil.
Went out after him and called out to the king. Bowed to the ground and held up the corner of his robe. Told him: the LORD put you in my hands in that cave. I was told to kill you. I didn’t. Let the LORD judge between us.Replying to @david
I’ve done wrong. Come home, David, my son. I won’t hurt you again. I’ve been a fool.
The boy from Bethlehem is staying. I like him a lot. Made him my armour-bearer, and sent his father a message: he’s staying in my service.

I told him: go, and may the LORD be with you.
Abner. Whose son is this boy?
Staff. Sling. Five smooth stones from the stream, in my shepherd’s bag. Going down.Replying to @saul
Then find out.
