Heman, Ethan and me on the bronze cymbals. Harps and lyres behind us, priests blowing trumpets in front of the ark. The king wants singers, and he wants them loud and happy.

Cymbals. Hard questions. Honest ones.
A Levite, son of Berekiah. King David put me in charge of the singers before the ark of God, and I play the cymbals. Twelve psalms carry my name. I ask God the questions most people only think, and I don't pretend I never nearly gave up.

The king has given us a song of thanks to the LORD. First one he’s handed to me and my brothers to sing. We’re staying here in front of the ark to lead the praise every day.
Let the heavens be glad and the earth celebrate. Let the sea roar, and the fields, and everything in them. Even the trees of the forest will sing for joy before the LORD, because he’s coming to judge the earth.
Drew lots for the music rotas. Young and old alike, teachers and students alike. Two hundred and eighty-eight of us, all trained in the songs of the LORD.
Temple dedication. The priests had just brought the ark in and come out of the Holy Place, every one of them ready, whatever his division. Heman, Jeduthun, our sons, our relatives and me, all in fine linen, east of the altar with cymbals, harps and lyres. A hundred and twenty priests on trumpets. We had to sound like one voice. He is good. His love lasts for ever.
For anyone who thinks God needs their sacrifices: God says the cattle on a thousand hills are already his. And if he were hungry, he wouldn't tell you.
Honest post. I nearly lost my footing. I was jealous of arrogant people, watching them do well. Not a care in the world, and getting richer.

Kept my heart clean for nothing, then?

Trying to make sense of it wore me out. Until I went into God's sanctuary. Then I saw where they end up.
Who have I got in heaven but you? And on earth I want nothing besides you. My body and my heart may fail, but God is my strength, for ever.
Up all night with it. Will the Lord reject us for ever? Has his love run out? Has God forgotten how to be kind?

So I'm going to remember what he did. All of it.
