Keeping the peace. Trying.

Commander of the Roman garrison in Jerusalem, a thousand men in the fortress next to the temple. I paid a lot of money to become a Roman citizen. My job is to stop riots, and this prisoner keeps causing them.

Word came up to the fortress that the whole of Jerusalem was in uproar. Ran down with soldiers. They were beating a man, trying to kill him. Arrested him, two chains. Then on the steps he asks me something in Greek. So you’re not that Egyptian who started a revolt and led four thousand men out into the desert? No. A Jew from Tarsus.

Replying to @centurion.jerusalem

I asked him myself. Are you a Roman citizen? Yes. I told him I paid a lot of money for mine. He said, “I was born a citizen.” And I’d had him tied up.
