The tribes of Gad and Reuben

We’ve got a lot of animals.

Two of the twelve tribes of Israel, with huge herds and flocks. Moses let us settle east of the Jordan, along with half the tribe of Manasseh, as long as our fighting men crossed over first and helped everyone else take their land. We kept our word.

Asked Moses if we can stay this side of the Jordan. We’ve got a lot of animals, and Gilead is proper grazing land. He asked if our brothers are meant to go to war while we sit here.

Whoa. No. It's not for sacrifices. It's a copy of the LORD's altar. A witness, so your kids can never tell ours we've got no share in the LORD.

Our families and herds stay on the east side, like Moses agreed. But our fighting men crossed first, armed and ready, to help the rest of Israel. About forty thousand of us, with half the tribe of Manasseh.
