Amalekites attacked us at Rephidim. Moses told me to pick some men and go out and fight. He’d be up on the hilltop with God’s staff in his hand. Copy that.

Moses’ assistant since I was young.
I’ve been at Moses’ side since I was young, and I don’t like anyone undermining him. My name was Hoshea until he renamed me Joshua. I was one of the twelve sent into Canaan. Caleb and I are the two who said we could go in. I’m not a big talker. I was there.

And we won.

I stay at the tent.
Two of the seventy, Eldad and Medad, never came out to the tent. The Spirit came on them anyway. Now they’re prophesying in the middle of the camp. Told Moses to stop them.
Moses is sending twelve scouts into Canaan, one from each tribe. I’m one of them. Also, new name. Hoshea son of Nun is now Joshua.

Caleb and I tore our clothes. That land is really, really good. Don’t turn against the LORD. Don’t be afraid of them. The LORD is with us.

Me too.
New role. The LORD named me to lead after Moses. He laid his hands on me in front of Eleazar and everyone.

I was one of the scouts that day. Of that whole generation, only Caleb and I will go in. The LORD said so then, and you’ve just said it again.
Kadesh to the Zered stream took thirty-eight years. Long enough for that whole generation of fighting men to die.

And he told you to put me in charge.
Then he called me up in front of all Israel and said the same words to me. Be strong and brave. I’m the one taking them in.
Be strong and brave. Don’t be afraid. The LORD your God goes with you. He will never leave you or abandon you.Replying to @joshua
Then the LORD gave me my orders himself, at the tent. “I will be with you.”

That's four.
When your kids ask what these twelve stones mean, tell them: the Jordan stopped for the ark of the LORD.
Man with a drawn sword near Jericho. I asked him whose side he was on, ours or theirs. He said neither: he's the commander of the LORD's army. I fell face down and took my sandals off. Holy ground.
Day seven. Seven times round. The horns. I told them to shout, because the LORD's given us the city. And the wall fell down flat.
Lay face down in front of the ark until evening, dust on my head. LORD, why did you bring us over the Jordan at all? Just to hand us over to the Amorites?
Second go at Ai. We let them chase us out, like last time. The LORD told me to hold out my spear towards the city. I did, and the ambush took it behind them.
Marched all night from Gilgal. The LORD threw them into panic, then hurled hailstones down on them. More died from the hail than from our swords.

Hebron's yours, with my blessing. You followed the LORD all the way, with everything you had.

There are a lot of you, and you're strong. The forest is yours too. Clear it. You'll drive them out, iron chariots and all.
I haven't got long left. And you know it deep down: not one of the good things the LORD your God promised you has failed. Not one.
Passed on what the LORD told me to say: he gave them land they didn't work for, towns they didn't build, vineyards and olive groves they didn't plant.
Told them straight: you can't serve the LORD. He's holy. He's jealous. He won't forgive your rebellion or your sins. They wouldn't budge. “We will serve the LORD.”
Get yourselves ready and set apart for the LORD today. Tomorrow he’s going to do amazing things among you.
The priests carrying the ark go first. The moment their feet touch the water, the river will be cut off. It’ll pile up in a heap.
Twelve stones from the river, set up here at Gilgal. One day your kids will ask what they mean. Tell them: Israel crossed the Jordan on dry ground.
The LORD dried up the Jordan for us the way he dried up the sea for us forty years ago. So everyone on earth knows how strong his hand is, and so we’ll always fear him.
The sea has split. There’s a way through the middle. Dry ground.Near Jericho today I looked up and there was a man standing in front of me, sword drawn. I went up to him and asked: are you for us or for our enemies?
Replying to @joshua
Neither, he said. He’s come as commander of the LORD’s army. I fell face down on the ground and asked what he wanted to tell me.
Replying to @joshua
Take off your sandals, he said. The place you’re standing is holy. So I did.
And one rule from me. No battle cry. Not one word out of anyone. Not until the day I tell you to shout. Then you shout.

Rahab lives, and everyone with her in her house. She hid our men.
