We’re rebuilding what was ours.
One of the elders of the Jews who came back from exile. When the governor came asking who’d authorised us to build, I told him the whole story, starting with who we are.

We told him who we are. We serve the God of heaven and earth. A great king of Israel built this temple long ago. Our ancestors made God angry, so he handed them over to Nebuchadnezzar, who destroyed it and took the people to Babylon. Then King Cyrus ordered it rebuilt. It's been going up ever since, and it isn't finished.

So the governor who came to check our paperwork now has to pay for the building. Out of his own region's taxes. You couldn't make it up.
