Pharisees and Sadducees at my baptism. You nest of snakes. Don’t tell me “Abraham is our father.” God could make children for Abraham out of these stones.

He must become greater. I must become less.
I baptise people out by the Jordan. I’m not the Christ, and I’m not the light. I’m the voice in the desert Isaiah talked about, here to point at him. When I saw Jesus coming I said it out loud: look, the Lamb of God. Now my followers are going after him, and honestly, that’s how it should be.

He asked me to baptise him. Him. I told him it should be the other way round. He said do it anyway, this is the right thing to do. So I did.
Out by the Jordan. Same message: turn back to God, be baptised, be forgiven. And they keep coming. Jerusalem, the whole of Judea.
I know what you're all wondering. I baptise you with water. Someone more powerful than me is coming, and I'm not fit to untie his sandals. He'll baptise you with the Holy Spirit and with fire.
No because everyone down here is thinking the same thing and nobody wants to say it. Is John the Messiah?Replying to @johnzebedee
Told you. He comes after me, but he was before me.
Priests came all the way from Jerusalem to ask who I am. Not the Christ. Not Elijah. Not the Prophet. Just a voice in the desert: make the road straight for the Lord.

I baptise with water. The one coming after me, I'm not even good enough to untie his sandal.

I didn't know who it would be. The one who sent me to baptise told me: the man you see the Spirit come down on and stay on, that's him. I saw it. The Spirit came down from heaven like a dove and stayed on him. He's the Son of God.

The groom's friend is just happy to hear the groom's voice. That's me. I couldn't be happier.
