Go and ask the LORD for me, for the people and for all Judah, about what’s written in this book. Our ancestors didn’t obey it. His anger against us must be huge.

King at eight. Started seeking God at sixteen.
Son of Amon, grandson of Manasseh, king of Judah for thirty-one years. I cleared the idols out, and when the Book of the Law was found in the temple, I tore my clothes.

Pulled down Jeroboam’s altar at Bethel. Saw tombs on the hillside, and had the bones taken out and burned on the altar to defile it. Then I asked about a monument. The men of the town said: that’s the tomb of the man of God from Judah who predicted exactly what you’ve just done to this altar. Leave him in peace, I said. Nobody touches his bones.
Altar, altar! The LORD says: a son will be born to David’s family, named Josiah, and he will burn human bones on you. And here’s the sign that the LORD has spoken: this altar will split apart and its ashes will pour out.
