Elisha comes through Shunem a lot, so he eats with us now. Told my husband: he’s a holy man of God. Let’s build him a little room on the roof. A bed, a table, a chair and a lamp. Somewhere to stay. Sorted.

Built the prophet a room. Asked for nothing.
A wealthy woman of Shunem. My husband and I built a little room on our roof for Elisha. I never asked for a son. I was given one.

I told him no. Please, man of God, don’t lie to me. A year later, I was holding him.
He’s older now. Went out to his dad with the harvesters. My head, my head, he kept saying. They carried him in to me. He sat on my lap till noon, and then he died. I took him up and laid him on the man of God’s bed, and shut the door.

Asked him: did I ask you for a son? Didn’t I tell you not to get my hopes up?

He had Gehazi call me in. Pick up your son. I fell at his feet and bowed to the ground. Then I picked up my son and went out.
Elisha had warned us: a seven-year famine is coming, go and live wherever you can. So we lived in Philistine country for seven years. Came back and went to the king about our house and land. As I walked in, Gehazi was telling the king how Elisha brought a dead boy back to life.

The king asked me and I told him. He gave me an officer and told him: give her back everything that was hers, and everything her fields have produced since she left.
Women got their dead back, raised to life. I’m one of them.
