Listen to the great king, the king of Assyria! Don’t let Hezekiah fool you. He can’t save you. Don’t let him talk you into trusting the LORD. Has the god of any nation ever saved its land from the king of Assyria? Where are the gods of Hamath and Arpad? Did they save Samaria from me?

Message for Hezekiah from the great king, the king of Assyria. What exactly are you trusting in? Egypt? Egypt is a splintered reed. Lean on it and it goes straight through your hand. The LORD your God? Isn’t he the one whose shrines and altars Hezekiah tore down?

A generous offer. I’ll give you two thousand horses. If you can find riders for them.

The great king didn’t send me to talk only to you and your king. He sent me to the men sitting on the wall as well. When this siege is done with them, they’ll be as starving and desperate as you.

People of Jerusalem, listen to the great king. Don’t let Hezekiah fool you. He can’t save you. Make peace and come out, and every one of you can eat from your own vine and fig tree, until I come and take you to a land just like yours. Has any god ever saved his country from the king of Assyria? Where are the gods of Hamath and Arpad? How is the LORD going to save Jerusalem?
