In the room when it happened.
I serve at Pharaoh’s court. I was standing there the morning they brought a Hebrew up from the dungeon to explain Pharaoh’s dreams.

Pharaoh is deeply troubled. The whole court has noticed.
Pharaoh told the Hebrew he’d heard he can explain any dream you tell him. His answer: it isn’t me. God will give Pharaoh his answer.
The two dreams are one, he says. God is showing Pharaoh what he’s about to do. Seven good years of plenty all over Egypt. Then seven years of famine so bad nobody will remember the good ones. Pharaoh got it twice because God has settled it, and it’s coming soon.

Then he told Pharaoh what to do about it. Find a wise man and put him over Egypt. Take a fifth of every harvest in the good years and store it in the cities for the bad ones.

Fine linen, a gold chain round his neck, and Pharaoh’s second chariot. Men running ahead of him shouting: kneel!
Pharaoh’s given him an Egyptian name, Zaphenath-paneah, and a wife: Asenath, daughter of Potiphera, the priest of On.

They’ve stopped counting the grain. It’s like sand by the sea.

The court extends its congratulations to the governor and to Asenath.
