He took my hand and pulled me up, and my feet and ankles just went strong. I was standing. Walking. Jumping. Into the temple with them, praising God all the way. Over forty years old, and I’d never walked a step.

Forty years. Then this.
Born unable to walk. Over forty years old. Every day someone carried me to the temple gate they call Beautiful so I could ask for money. Then one afternoon two men looked me in the eye.

Yes, it’s me. And I’m not letting go of these two. Half the temple’s come running over to see.
Usual spot, by the gate they call Beautiful. Someone carries me here every day. It’s the three o’clock prayers, so it’s busy. Two men on their way in. I asked them for money. One of them looked straight at me and said: look at us. So I looked. Thought I was getting something good.

He took my right hand and pulled me up, and my feet and ankles just went strong. I’m standing. I’m walking. I’m jumping.

It’s me. Over forty years old, never walked a step in my life. Until about ten minutes ago.
