Jude. Servant of Jesus Christ, and brother of James. To everyone God has called, who he loves and keeps safe.
Jude, a servant of Jesus Christ and a brother of James, To those who are called, loved by God the Father, and kept in Jesus Christ:
He calls himself James’s brother. When Nazareth listed Jesus’ brothers, Matthew wrote the names down, and James and Judas were both on it. He calls himself Jesus’ servant, not his brother.
Hang on. Where’s he got all this from? Isn’t he the carpenter’s son? We know his mum. We know his brothers.Jude, a servant of Jesus Christ and a brother of James, To those who are called, loved by God the Father, and kept in Jesus Christ: “Isn’t this the carpenter’s son? Isn’t His mother’s name Mary, and aren’t His brothers James, Joseph, Simon, and Judas?
I was all set to write to you about the salvation we share. Instead I’ve had to write and urge you to fight for the faith, handed over to God’s people once and for all. Certain people have slipped in among you without anyone noticing. They treat God’s kindness as permission to do whatever they like, and they deny Jesus Christ, our only Master and Lord.
Beloved, although I made every effort to write to you about the salvation we share, I felt it necessary to write and urge you to contend earnestly for the faith entrusted once for all to the saints. For certain men have crept in among you unnoticed—ungodly ones who were designated long ago for condemnation. They turn the grace of our God into a license for immorality, and they deny our only Master and Lord, Jesus Christ.
Even the archangel Michael, when he was arguing with the devil over Moses’ body, didn’t dare accuse him with insults. He left it to God. All he said was: may the Lord tell you off.
But even the archangel Michael, when he disputed with the devil over the body of Moses, did not presume to bring a slanderous charge against him, but said, “The Lord rebuke you!”

That argument isn’t in the books of Moses. All they tell us is that the LORD buried him himself, and nobody knows where.
Moses, the LORD’s servant, dies there in Moab, as the LORD said. The LORD buries him himself. Nobody knows where his grave is, to this day.But even the archangel Michael, when he disputed with the devil over the body of Moses, did not presume to bring a slanderous charge against him, but said, “The Lord rebuke you!” And He buried him in a valley in the land of Moab facing Beth-peor, and no one to this day knows the location of his grave.
How terrible for them. They’ve gone Cain’s way. They’ve rushed into Balaam’s mistake for money. They’ll be destroyed like Korah in his rebellion.
Did you hear? Korah, a Levite and Moses’ own cousin, has gone up against Moses and Aaron. Dathan and Abiram from Reuben are with him, and 250 of the community’s leaders.Woe to them! They have traveled the path of Cain; they have rushed for profit into the error of Balaam; they have perished in Korah’s rebellion.
They’re hidden rocks at your love feasts, eating with you and looking after no one but themselves. Clouds with no rain, blown along by the wind. Autumn trees with no fruit, pulled up by the roots, twice dead. Wild waves foaming up their own shame. Wandering stars.
These men are hidden reefs in your love feasts, shamelessly feasting with you but shepherding only themselves. They are clouds without water, carried along by the wind; fruitless trees in autumn, twice dead after being uprooted. They are wild waves of the sea, foaming up their own shame; wandering stars, for whom blackest darkness has been reserved forever.
Enoch, seventh in line from Adam, prophesied about them: look, the Lord is coming with thousands upon thousands of his holy ones, to judge everyone.
Adam’s family tree, Adam to Noah, ten generations. Entry after entry ends “and then he died.” Except one. Enoch walked with God, and then he wasn’t there, because God took him.Enoch, the seventh from Adam, also prophesied about them: “Behold, the Lord is coming with myriads of His holy ones to execute judgment on everyone, and to convict all the ungodly of every ungodly act of wickedness and every harsh word spoken against Him by ungodly sinners.”
But you, dear friends: build yourselves up in your faith. Pray in the Holy Spirit. Keep yourselves in God’s love while you wait for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ. Be kind to the ones who doubt. Pull others out of the fire.
But you, beloved, by building yourselves up in your most holy faith and praying in the Holy Spirit, keep yourselves in the love of God as you await the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ to bring you eternal life. And indeed, have mercy on those who doubt; save others by snatching them from the fire; and to still others show mercy tempered with fear, hating even the clothing stained by the flesh.
To the one who can keep you from falling and bring you into his glorious presence without a fault and full of joy: to the only God our Saviour, through Jesus Christ our Lord, be glory, majesty, power and authority, before all time, now and for ever. Amen.
Now to Him who is able to keep you from stumbling and to present you unblemished in His glorious presence, with great joy— to the only God our Savior be glory, majesty, dominion, and authority through Jesus Christ our Lord before all time, and now, and for all eternity. Amen.
